Powsels (2026 - ongoing)
Monoprints on tosa washi paper, 94x63cm

‘Powsels and thrums are the oddments of thread that were kept [by a handloom weaver] for personal use, their hues forming new patterns; the oldest of scraps, made into other garb; the oldest of stories, made into other tales.’ (Garner, 2024, p.172).

Powsels, from ‘powse’ – in the Cheshire dialect, meaning dirty scraps and rags.

–

An ongoing series of experiments with scrim, a fabric traditionally used as a cleaning tool in printmaking contexts, but which is employed as a means of weaving moiré patterns in my practice.
